One Year Ago Today: Ricky Gervais Torches Hollywood With Golden Globes Opening Monologue

One year ago today…

If you remember the 2020 Golden Globes (which nobody does), the highlight of the night (the only part people actually remember) was right at the beginning when host Ricky Gervais came out and tore Hollywood a new asshole with his opening monologue.

He called out Felicity Huffman, big corporations like Apple and Disney, pedophiles, the racists in the Hollywood Foreign Press, the movie Cats, Jeffrey Epstein’s “suicide” and more.

“He obviously didn’t kill himself, just like Jeffrey Epstein… Shut up, I know he’s your friend but I don’t care.”

He ended his already epic monologue by telling the Hollywood elites to shut up with their soapbox speeches about politics and just get on with the show.

“So if you do win an award tonight, don’t use it as a platform to make a political speech. You’re in no position to lecture the public about anything. You know nothing about the real world. Most of you spent less time in school than Greta Thunberg. If you win, come up, accept your little award, thank your agent and your God, and fuck off, OK?”

I don’t know if I’ve ever watched an awards show intro so many times.

And unfortunately, Ricky kept his promise of never coming back to the show and now, Tina Fey and Amy Poehler will be hosting this year’s awards on February, 28th.
