Bass fisherman Matty Wong has some nice things to say about Koe Wetzel.

Last month, the 2024 Bass Pro Shops Bassmaster Classic took place, hosting their first-ever celebrity Pro-Am. The competition paired up a handful of musicians and professional athletes with Elite Series anglers looking to reel in some hogs on Skiatook Lake in Oklahoma.

Koe Wetzel and Cody Cannon, frontman for Whiskey Myers, represented the country music world. Former NFL stars Patrick Queen and Randy Moss, MLB player Michael Brantley and his dad Mickey, X Games legend Travis Pastrana, and NASCAR’s Ross Chastain also made appearances. And fun fact, Cody is actually an owner and lure designer for Toad Thumper Lure Co. which makes some of the best hollow body frogs in the business.

Matty Wong took Koe Wetzel under his wing for the day and, after the tournament, had nothing but praises to sing about the East Texas outdoorsman. I have to say I am not surprised, Koe is an avid hunter and fisherman spending many of his days off in the woods or on the lake.

“I was super excited to be a part of the Celebrity Pro-Am, especially when I saw the names of the celebrity participants. It was really cool to see people come in from all different types of professions and come together because of our love of angling.

Koe was such a nice guy, and we instantly hit it off. He was a really good angler, and I could tell as soon as his competitive side came out that we were going to have a fun day.”

Bassmaster said after chatting with Matty Wong.

You can tell by some of their boat footage how fired up these two get as they reel in some nice bass. While they might not have been the champions of the tournament, I hope that these two hit some more celebrity tournaments, it seems as though they make one heck of a team.
