Charley Crockett Continues To Prove Why He’s One Of The Best In The Game With New Record ‘$10 Cowboy’

Charley Crockett is truly one of a kind.

The look, the sound, the overall aura surrounding his persona and music, there’s just not anyone else like him. It’s difficult to look away when he is the center of attention, but that’s often where you’ll find him, perhaps reluctantly albeit, and his story is almost cinematic, emerging from the streets into the spotlight in dramatic fashion. And he has plenty of stories to share as a result.

In his latest album $10 Cowboy, through catchy and clever lyricism, Crockett’s innate storytelling ability shines as he recounts some of these personal anecdotes that make him so unique and reveals some of the sentiments he has obtained along the way, yet refrains from divulging too many details as to maintain the element of mystery that has followed him throughout his career. Moreover, in addition to the personal aspects of this project, Crockett also takes the opportunity to tell seemingly far-fetched tales of a glorified American West and the imaginative, or perhaps real life characters who have occupied it, holistically juxtaposing the concepts of the cowboy and the cowboy singer, and reveling in the notion of what makes either authentic.

His 14th album in just nine years, $10 Cowboy is an eclectic collection of captivating songs through which he creates his own world that resides solely within the confines of this record, and he’s kind enough to let us all experience it. Consisting of 13 tracks that, if nothing else, reflect the cinematic aspect of the life he has lived, his latest record reflects some of his best work thus far in his career. And that’s saying something coming from someone with a catalog as robust and impressive as Crockett’s.

The iconic Texas troubadour has been rolling out well-received singles since January, beginning with the title track “$10 Cowboy” as well as “Hard Luck & Circumstances” and “Solitary Road,” steadily contributing to the palpable anticipation that has surrounded the project ever since it was announced. Sonically, this record runs the gamut, from swampy blues riffs to steel soaked honky tonkers, Crockett draws on a vast array of influences and inspirations, and the result is something truly special.

I could go on and on describing this record and trying to succinctly put into words its magnitude, but the only real way anyone is going to be able to experience this record is by listening to it all the way through, from start to finish, and letting Crockett paint the picture and set the scene through his descriptive lyrics as he does so well. So with 10 brand new songs in addition to the singles, dive on in to Charley Crockett’s latest record $10 Cowboy with a few of my early favorites:

“$10 Cowboy”

“Good At Losing”

“Diamond In The Rough”

“City of Roses”

“Lead The Way”

An absolute masterpiece from one of country music’s most prolific artists and intriguing personalities. It doesn’t get much better than this.

Now that you’ve listened to the album, get out there and hear these songs played live when Crockett comes to a city near you this spring and summer. That is if the show isn’t already sold out, of course.
