Southern California Hiker Chased By Mountain Lion In Terrifying New Video

Nothing like a nice afternoon hike in beautiful, sunny, Southern California and… getting mauled by a mountain lion.

That was almost the story for one Los Angeles-area hiker, who came face to face with an aggressive lion just this weekend.

There isn’t that much info given regarding where he was located or what he was doing other than he was out on a hike, but he appears to start running. He doesn’t give any indication that he spotted the cat so maybe he just like to run mountains (hey Cam Hanes), but when he whips the camera back around, the lion is hot on his tail.

Rather than continuing to run, he turns and faces the animal, roaring a lion himself, which is enough to give the cat pause, eventually scaring him away.

“I was stalked by a mountain lion so I ran up on and scared it away with a roar at the last minute.”

Honestly, I don’t know how this dude wasn’t a little more freaked out, but kudos to him for handling it like a champ. I imagine panicking and running away could be the difference between life and death for some of us.

Everybody loves the idea of nature until they’re confronted with harsh realities of real wilderness. It’s big, it’s beautiful and it’s incredibly humbling.

Helluva way to kick off the new year…
