Applebee’s Sets 14-Year Sales Record Thanks To This “Blacking Out on a Budget” Thing

We’ve been using the phrase “Blacking Out on a Budget” when describing the insane monthly deals Applebee’s has for drinks.

A row of colorful cans

This month it’s a $2 Dilly Dilly deal, last month it was $1 Zombie cocktails, and in the past you’ve seen $1 Margs and Long Islands. This shit is no joke. Well, it’s working. Newly released reports state that the chain saw a 7.7% increase in sales this quarter, that’s a 14-year high, and crushed its competitors who saw an increase of about 1.2% according to CNBC.

John Cywinski, president of Applebee’s, said that Americans are stressed, and they want to provide comfort food to these people. And the cheap drinks.

“Applebee’s is back to its roots,” he said. “The evidence is four consecutive quarters of growth, 43 consecutive weeks of positive comp sales, [and] outperforming every segment of the restaurant industry.”

We’ll have to wait and see what the cheap drink deal is next month, but it’s safe to say the blackout train will roll on.
