Joey + Rory’s “When I’m Gone” Will Hit You Harder Than Ever Before

Everyone knows about the heartbreaking story by now.

Fans of Joey + Rory got a heart-wrenching update Monday after Rory Feek posted to his blog that God had answered the couple’s prayers.

“Hospice is arranged and a hospital bed will be delivered later this morning,” he wrote on This Life I Live about his wife’s battle with Stage IV cervical cancer. “Joey is at peace with where she is and where she’s going. So am I. An answer to prayer.”

“We need to concentrate now on helping her be comfortable,” he continued. “Not the answer we hoped for… but the answer he has given us.”

The couple have three children, and chronicled last week what it was like for Joey, 40, to say goodbye to her two stepdaughters, Heidi and Hopie.

On Sunday, Rory brought their 1-year-old daughter Indiana — born right before Joey was diagnosed with cancer — to the hospital to see her mother. He said their eyes lit up the moment they saw each other.

“Yesterday, I sat her down in front of her mama and they smiled and played and loved each other the way that only mamas and their little ones can,” Rory wrote. “Afterwards, when Indy got sleepy, Joey held her and sang ‘In The Garden’ and other hymns as she softly stroked her silky-blonde hair.”

When Rory and Joey were left alone last night, Joey recorded books on tape with the hope that one day her daughter would sit on her husband’s lap and turn pages while listening to her mom read to her.

“Perfect love filled that hospital room as we all held our breath and wiped our eyes,” Rory wrote.
