Whiskey Riff Predicts The Winners Of The 50th Annual ACM Awards

The 50th Annual ACM Awards are this Sunday and we’re going to have a little fun picking the winners. Before we get started, I must warn that there is definitely a difference between who I think SHOULD win and who I think WILL win. So here it goes…

2015 Academy of Country Music Awards Nominees

Entertainer of the Year

Jason Aldean
Garth Brooks
Luke Bryan
Miranda Lambert
Florida Georgia Line

Winner: Garth Brooks – This is tough one with Luke and Jason selling out stadiums left and right, but if you went to one of Garth’s shows on his “comeback tour,” you’ll know it was unlike any other experience in music this year. He’s still got it.

Male Vocalist of the Year

Jason Aldean
Dierks Bentley
Luke Bryan
Eric Church
Brad Paisley
Blake Shelton

Winner: Dierks Bentley –  This may be a bit of a reach in this wide open category, but Dierks took it to another level with Riser and I think he may have what it takes to steal the crown this year.

Female Vocalist of the Year

Brandy Clark
Miranda Lambert
Martina McBride
Kacey Musgraves
Carrie Underwood

Winner: Miranda Lambert – As much as I would love to see Kacey Musgraves get some recognition, I just can’t see Miranda being dethroned this year. 100% Miranda.

New Artist of the Year

Sam Hunt
Thomas Rhett
Cole Swindell

Winner: Thomas Rhett – This one is anyone’s game. Obviously, Sam Hunt exploded on the scene this year and Cole Swindell continues to make a lot of noise. However, with the fans voting on this one, I am going to give the nod to Thomas Rhett and his “home team”.

Vocal Duo of the Year

Brothers Osborne
Dan + Shay
Florida Georgia Line
Maddie + Tae
The Swon Brothers

Winner: Florida Georgia Line – As much as I love the Brothers Osborne and think they should take this award hands down, the boys of FGL have just too much fire power.

Vocal Group of the Year

Lady Antebellum
Little Big Town
Rascal Flatts
The Band Perry
Zac Brown Band

Winner: Little Big Town – Pain Killer was one of the best albums of 2014. It would be a crime for them not to win this category.

Album of the Year

Jason Aldean, ‘Old Boots, New Dirt’
Little Big Town, ‘Pain Killer’
Miranda Lambert, ‘Platinum’
Dierks Bentley, ‘Riser’
Eric Church, ‘The Outsiders’

Winner: Eric Church, ‘The Outsiders’ – Eric could arguably have the best album every year he puts one out. The Outsiders was no exception. With ‘Give Me Back My Hometown’ and ‘Like A Wrecking Ball,’ among others, this album had everything.

Song of the Year

Kenny Chesney, ‘American Kids’
Miranda Lambert, ‘Automatic’
Luke Bryan, ‘Drink a Beer’
Kacey Musgraves, ‘Follow Your Arrow’
Eric Church, ‘Give Me Back My Homwetown’
Dierks Bentley, ‘I Hold On’

Winner: Dierks Bentley, ‘I Hold On’ – This song was amazing and although I think Luke’s emotional ‘Drink A Beer,’ or Chesney’s ‘American Kids’ could snag the win, I’m riding high on Dierks this year.

Single Record of the Year

Kenny Chesney, ‘American Kids’
Miranda Lambert, ‘Automatic’
Florida Georgia Line, ‘Dirt’
Dierks Bentley, ‘Drunk on a Plane’
Lee Brice, ‘I Don’t Dance’

Winner: Lee Brice, ‘I Don’t Dance’ – Not sure why, but I got a hunch on this one.

Vocal Event of the Year

Blake Shelton (Feat. Ashley Monroe), ‘Lonely Tonight’
Tim McGraw (Feat. Faith Hill), ‘Meanwhile Back at Mama’s’
Miranda Lambert (Feat. Carrie Underwood), ‘Somethin’ Bad’
The Cadillac Three (Feat. Florida Georgia Line, Dierks Bentley and Mike Eli), ‘The South’
Florida Georgia Line (Feat. Luke Bryan), ‘This Is How We Roll’

Winner: Tim and Faith, ‘Meanwhile Back At Mama’s’ – This is a pure country song. It resonated with a lot of people in the country community and the husband and wife duo is the icing on the cake. Tough category however.
