A special surprise for the Mississippi crowd.
Morgan Wallen returned to to Vaught-Hemingway stadium in Oxford, Mississippi over the weekend to make up a show that was abruptly canceled last year just minutes before he was slated to go on stage.
He also (kind of) addressed his recent arrest ahead of performing “’98 Braves,” from his record-breaking 2023 One Thing At A Time album, while explaining how important his high school baseball coach, Coach Davis, was to him because he “never gave up on me”:
And Morgan also gave the Mississippi crowd a special perofrmance of an unreleased song called “Lies Lies Lies” as a “thank you” to them for showing up for the rescheduled show, which he’d only played one other time live at a small radio show. A live studio performance of the song was included on his recent Abbey Road Sessions series too.
But this was the first time Morgan has ever played it live in concert, during what was a pretty simple moment and delivery of the song, similar to the production we heard in the other two performances.
In the lyrics, Morgan touches on heartbreak and how the “90 proof is telling me lies, lies lies,” as he begs the girl to stay telling her there’s “nothing I wouldn’t do for you.” It’s unclear who the writers are for this one, but if and when Morgan does decide to cut it (and I’m assuming he already has or plans to since he sang it here), I really hope they keep a similar production as they played for the Abbey Road Sessions.

“Lies Lies Lies” has quickly become a fan-favorite, with people in the comments section begging him to release the full studio cut on streaming services, and if I had to guess, it’s likely that will be happening in the near(ish) future.
And seeing as the live concert version was also pretty simple and stripped-back, it seems even more likely to be the version we’ll eventually hear on a studio cut, and I’m hoping that’s the case, because it really doesn’t need anything “extra,” in my humble opinion.
