“I Guess I’m Still A Little Rowdy” — Morgan Wallen Jokes With Mississippi Crowd During First Show Following Arrest

Morgan returns to Oxford.

Last night, Morgan Wallen returned to Vaught-Hemingway stadium in Oxford, Mississippi to make up a show that was abruptly canceled last year just minutes before he was slated to go on stage.

This appearance has also been clouded by more recent controversy, as Morgan was arrested in Nashville for allegedly throwing a chair off the 6th story rooftop of Eric Church’s new downtown Nashville bar, Chief’s, on April 7th.

A few days ago, Morgan released his first statement on the matter, saying he “wasn’t proud” of his behavior, while also there would be “no change” regrading his current stadium tour.

And it looks like last night went off pretty smoothly, as Morgan jokingly displayed a funny sign that he had his “full voice” and was ready to perform for the Mississippi crowd. When he canceled last year, a sign flashed for fans telling them he wouldn’t be coming out and they needed to exit the stadium, so this was pretty fitting:

He also (kind of) addressed his recent arrest ahead of performing ”’98 Braves,” from his record-breaking 2023 One Thing At A Time album, while explaining how important his high school baseball coach, Coach Davis, was to him because he “never gave up on me.”

Morgan admitted that he was almost kicked off the team in high school because he was so rowdy, and not much has changed, because he’s “still a little rowdy now.”

Yeah, I’d say that’s kind of an understatement:

“In high school, I almost got kicked off the team… I was a little rowdy back then. I guess I’m still a little rowdy now.

But Coach Davis, man, he never gave up on me. And there’s been a lot of people in my life who never gave up on me. Some of ’em are in this building tonight, you guys included. I just wanted to shout out that part of my life with this right here.

And since baseball had been  such a huge part of my life, , it was only right that we made a baseball song. so here it is, ”98 Braves.'”

Morgan also played a new, unreleased song “Lies Lies Lies” as a “thank you” to the Mississippi fans for showing up for the rescheduled show, which he’d only played one other time live at a small radio show. A live studio performance of the song was included on his Abbey Road Sessions series too:
