Another Sierra Ferrell track bestowed upon us.
Sierra Ferrell is starting to unveil singles from her forthcoming album Trail of Flowers, and so far, I am loving what we are hearing. Today, the West Virginia native drops a new single from the album “I Could Drive You Crazy.”
Ferrell has been performing this song on the road for quite some time. Back in 2022, she took the single to Australia, and since hearing the fiddle song then, I have been patiently waiting for the studio version of this to drop.
“‘I was hanging out with some friends and we had an idea for a song where you’re telling someone, ‘I’m not good at this and I’m not good at that, but one thing I can do is drive you crazy. “
We decided to put in some audio of my New Year’s Eve crowd at the end, so you can hear them howling on there. I always love getting everyone to howl at my shows—it’s a good, free feeling.”
The song’s intro features a melodic fiddle anthemically fitting the lyrics that Ferrell sings. After the first verse, the entire band kicks in, and the lyrics follow a harmonious chorus that feels slightly like a call and response. The end of the song is purely instrumental which is the perfect time to hoop, holler, or howl.
“Hay fever’s knocking at your door
You can feed the dogs lying on your floor
Took all your gold from your chester drawer
I can drive you crazy yes I can…”
The pictures Ferrell paints through her lyrics follow the old-timey feel that “Fox Hunt” has, which I think will be a common theme we will see throughout this album.
Right off the heels of her national television debut, Ferrell has been on a roll now, dropping this next single. Each song that she releases continues to impress her audience, and “I Could Drive You Crazy” is no exception.
I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again. 2024 is the Era of Sierra… Turn it up.
