IT’S HAPPENING. Sturgill Simpson is BACK.
The announcement we have all been waiting for was finally made: Sturgill Simpson is hitting the road and putting out new music.
After Sturgill Simpson nearly broke the internet twice with a mysterious “coming soon” banner on his website, fans were disappointed to see the announcements consisted of a rerelease of Metamodern Sounds In Country Music for the 10th anniversary of the album and the announcement that he was headlining the Outside Lands Festival.
In all honesty, as a fan, when I saw a banner covering the website for a third time, I was very skeptical. Of course, I fell into the trap of thinking we’d be getting new music, and this time, Stu came through.
These are the skeleton dudes from Sailor's Guide to the Universe. It's gotta be done kinda re-release thing. I'm not getting fooled again. I'm totally getting fooled again. https://t.co/MdKolRdGQr pic.twitter.com/uZocVsiuJ8

Sturgill Simpson’s website announced that he is releasing a new album and preparing to embark on a 30-stop tour.
On July 12th, Dick Daddy will release his first album since 2021, and under his Johnny Blue Skies persona, titled Passage Du Desir. The website highlights the black and white album art for the record, which actually can be located at 84 Passage Du Desir, Paris, France (looks like you can actually rent it like an Airbnb).
The title translates to “Passage of Desire.”

As if the announcement of the album is not enough, fans are also gifted with information about the Why Not? Tour. The tour will span across the United States with two stops in Canada and includes his two festival appearances. (But as we know, Simpson loves to make impromptu appearances on stage, so who is to say that the number of festival appearances won’t expand.)
Underneath all of this information, the website also features a simple FQA section.
“Q: Is Johnny Blue Skies Sturgill Simpson?
A: Yes
Q: Will Sturgill be playing music from his entire catalog on the “Why Not?” tour?
A: Yes
Q: Is the band Kevin, Laur, Miles and Robbie?
A: Yes”
Sturgill could go full Chris Gains with his Johnny Blue Skies persona, and I’m still his biggest fan. This is the best news I could have ever wished for on a Wednesday. Let the countdown to July begin.
