A court in Oklahoma recently upheld the conviction of a man named Anthony Borges who stole four Bud Lights from Toby Keith’s Dream Walkin’ Farms in 2024.
According to court records obtained and viewed by Whiskey Riff, it was back on July 9 when the Oklahoma Court of Criminal Appeals confirmed a burglary conviction of multiple beer cans from the Big Dog Daddy’s farm in Norman a couple of years ago. Early last year (April 2025 to be exact), a Cleveland County jury concluded that Borges did steal the beers, and found him guilty of second-degree burglary.
He was supposed to serve two years in prison for the burglary, but Borges was apparently discharged from the Department of Corrections five weeks prior to the Oklahoma Court of Criminal Appeals confirming his conviction.
From the jump, Borges claimed that it couldn’t be proven that he went to Keith’s estate with the intent of stealing alcoholic beverages, and appealed the conviction he had received. The office of Attorney General Gentner Drummond, who opposed Borges in the case, said that the Bud Light thief stole after he was turned away from Keith’s home:
“The defendant entered the cabana with the intent to steal something inside (after Toby Keith’s daughter turned him away from the house). Once he reached the cabana, the defendant approached its sliding glass door. Finding it unlocked, he slid it open and went inside, shutting the door behind him. The defendant proceeded to rummage throughout the unoccupied cabana — opening drawers and cabinets and examining the array of Toby Keith memorabilia strewn about.
He eventually came across a mini fridge stocked with various alcoholic beverages, including dozens of cans of Bud Light beer. The defendant grabbed three Bud Light cans and headed back towards the glass door, appearing to be leaving, but then abruptly turned around and grabbed one more. Apparently satisfied with the four Bud Lights, the defendant exited the cabana through the glass door and made his way to the garage.”
Once Borges made it to the garage, he cracked open one of the beers and started peering into vehicles that were parked within.
At one point, the cops were called on Borges, and when they eventually arrived to find Borges drinking beer and snooping around the property, the Bud Light bandit told the Sheriff at the time that he had traveled to Keith’s estate because “the Lord had told him to come work for Toby Keith.”
The legal team representing Borges tried to argue that their client was at Toby Keith’s Dream Walkin’ Farms to try and find work, and only started wandering around the property and drinking the Keith family’s beers “for the sake of novelty,” and because he was a big fan of the late country icon (Toby had passed away earlier in 2024).
As stated earlier, Borges was supposed to serve two years in prison (he had pre-existing charges) for stealing those Bud Lights from Toby Keith’s family, but was released from Department of Corrections custody on June 1 of this year. Shortly after, he was picked up on a warrant for another crime he had committed in 2022. Borges posted bond for those charges, and then failed to appear in court.
