Sturgill Simpson’s Website Once Again Teases Something “Coming Soon” & I’m Not Falling For It (Yes I Am)

I’m not falling for it…

This feels like we might be getting trolled, once again, as I write a headline about Sturgill Simpson teasing something “coming soon” on his website. Twice now, Sturgill Simpson has created an internet frenzy, making the front page of his website a dark screen, with the implication that an announcement of enormous importance is on the way.

The first time fans were disappointed to see the announcement was the rerelease of Metamodern Sounds In Country Music for its 10th anniversary, and the second countdown led to the news that Sturgill was set to headline the Outside Lands Festival this fall.

And don’t get me wrong, both pretty cool, but do they really deserve a countdown (full of technical difficulties) when Stu hasn’t put out music or toured in years?

While news of the festival announcement was still huge given that Sturgill took an indefinite hiatus from touring after a vocal chord rupture, it was just the singular show versus a tour many were hoping for.

Today, Sturgill is about to break the internet for a third time, completely shutting down his website with another “coming soon” cover image. This time, however, the announcement has no countdown or indication of when the news will be shared. It is also interesting because while the website was fully functional past the home page for the previous announcements, this time, it is shut down completely.

It only appears that the website’s merchandise section is still functional. At the same time, all other pages show a graphic of two skeletons facing each other with pitchforks and the “coming soon” message below:

Hopefully, this website shutdown leads to the news that we are all hoping for…that Dick Daddy is cooking up something good. With his Outside Lands and Austin City Limits headlining announcements, it seems Sturgill is back, so I am keeping my fingers and toes crossed that this announcement is an extensive tour or new music (emphasis on new music).

But once again, I’m not falling for it…

Let’s also not forget the billboard from Stagecoach weekend, where Sturgill also appeared to be teasing new music… time will only tell.
