A good old fashioned breakup song.

Today, Carly Pearce released a new tune called “My Place,” which is the fifth single she’s put out from her forthcoming hummingbird album, in addition to “heels over head,” “country music made me do it” and “we don’t fight anymore” featuring Chris Stapleton, and the title track.

She says “My Place” was inspired by a dream she had about a relationship she was in, but knew was bound to end eventually:

“I wrote this song about a dream I had long before the relationship I was in ended, but I knew that it would.

It’s hard to watch people move on and realize your heart can’t live there anymore, but that realization is the beginning of the healing process.”

Written by Carly along with Lauren Hungate and Jordan Reynolds, it finds her coming to terms with the fact that her ex has moved on and found someone new, though she hasn’t quite done the same. There is some clever wordplay that I absolutely love, and this is easily one of my favorites from the tracklist so far:

“Bet my good wine’s still in his bar
Took all of my dishes, but I left my heart
Are her eyes blue or green?
Is she prettier than me?
Were you chasin’ some high? Was I just some phase?
Do you ever slip up and call her my name?
Either way

It ain’t my place
To question if there’s someone fillin’ my space
Ain’t my business tryna picture 4 by 6s with her in ’em
If she does things that I didn’t
Wonderin’ what the hell I’m wonderin’ for
It ain’t my place ’cause it ain’t my place anymore”

hummingbird was produced by Carly along with Shane McAnally and Josh Osborne, marking her debut as a co-producer.

Blending a traditional country sound and honest, authentic lyricism to create a lane that is all her own, Carly is certainly one to watch in the genre and is poised to release one of the best albums of the year with this new project.

It’s slated to drop everywhere on June 14th, and you can check out “My Place” below.
