The Golden Globes… one of the award shows that no one really cares about.
Well, if The Golden Globes are one you do care about…sorry, but I have a feeling that most of our audience does not give a rat’s ass about these awards. To be honest, I didn’t even know it was being held last night, nor could I tell you who the host was before a quick Google search. Now, Sturgill Simpson wins one for his role in The Righteous Gemstones? You have my attention…
There was, however, an incident that falls right into our wheelhouse, and no, it’s not Twitter wishing Jim Gaffigan would host the remainder of the awards show. It concerns a mega-pop star and her relationship with a Kansas City Chiefs player. If you guessed Taylor Swift, you’ve hit the nail on the head.
Unless you live under a rock, you’ve seen headline after headline about Swift and Travis Kelce. Whether it’s about their plans for the future as a couple or how the NFL uses her game attendance as a marketing ploy, there is always something surrounding the couple. Last night, I am sure Swift expected to enjoy her evening at an event that shouldn’t be known for tying in sports commentary, but host Jo Koy had other plans.
“As you know, we came on after a football doubleheader.”
Koy tells the audience, kicking off his next segment between award announcements.
“The big difference between The Golden Globes and the NFL is at The Golden Globes, we have fewer camera shots of Taylor Swift…I swear, just more to go to here.”
You hear the soft rumble of the audience giggling, and the camera moves from the main stage over to Swift’s table, highlighting the attendance of the blonde pop star. Swift looks less than impressed with the joke as she picks up her glass of champagne and brings it to her tight lips.
At the same time, the friend sitting next to Swift is seen mouthing, “Just smile” to her as they both are highly aware that a pointed camera shot is coming right after that comment.
“Sorry about that.”
Koy says as the camera moves back to him on stage.
While Koy was not wrong with the joke, he might have come after the wrong fan base because Swifites are blowing up the comment section of the chopped clip on TikTok flaming Koy.
“Bye Jo Koy, even though this is my first time seeing you.”
“Who the f*ck is Jo Koy?”
“Imagine creating a category basically just to invite Taylor Swift and then pulling this sh*t.”
“Adds to list…”
“The song we’re gonna get about this night is gonna be on repeat.”

Given that Swift has admitted she doesn’t care if she pisses off the “Dads, Brads, and Chads” from her camera time at NFL games, I have a feeling she was less than impressed with this dig. She more seems less impressed with the creativity from Koy on the joke…which is honestly fair. She is also known for being fairly deadpan with own particular brand of comedy… I could see her laughing following the stone-faced moment for the camera.
To future award show hosts… the Taylor Swift NFL bit has been worn out, time for some new material.
