Fearless Frenchie Goes Toe-To-Toe With Two Black Bears On California Porch

Put some respect on the French bulldog’s name.

I’ve never really been a fan of Frenchie’s. I know it’s a very unpopular opinion, but they’re so expensive and small and I just don’t really get the hype around them (much to the dismay of my wife), but hey, you can’t like everything I guess.

But after watching this video, my mind may be changing.

One afternoon in Monrovia, California, security cameras picked up on two black bears breaking into David Hernandez’s backyard and starting to poke around his on the porch. Well, his little Frenchie named Jewels didn’t much like those two intruders getting in his family’s space and went on the attack.

Jewels took off like a bottle rocket towards the bears, barking and jumping and doing whatever it could to run the bears off. Hernandez was at work while this happened and could do nothing but watch on his phone, which had to be terrifying considering the bears were much larger than Jewels, but in the end, it was the size of the fight in the dog, not the size of the dog in the fight.

Hernandez told ABC7:

“She’s 20 pounds of heart. She’s my little hero. I couldn’t believe it. I was shocked, amazed. I didn’t know how she had this in her. Where did this come from? She was like a little warrior.”

A little warrior she was because those bears didn’t know what hit them and immediately began running for their lives. One was even forced to hop the fence to flee as Jewels nipped at its heels, which is a funny sight no doubt, but hey, if it works, it works.

While I don’t recommend letting your small dogs spend too much time around bears, this is proof that it’s a good thing to have a guard dog around the house.

You never know what’s going to try and break in.
