Kacey Musgraves’ “Glittery” Is One Of The Best Country Christmas Love Songs I’ve Ever Heard

Kacey Musgraves has some of the best original Christmas music out there.

While I do have a few classic Christmas songs that I love and seemingly never get old, like “White Christmas,” “Ill Be Home For Christmas” and other nostalgic tunes of that nature, most of the stuff recreated and put out these days kinda sucks.

And I say most, because our Country Christmas Songs That Don’t Suck playlist is full of country Christmas music that you can listen to all holiday season and never get sick of it…

Anywho, back to Kacey.

In 2016, she released her beautiful holiday album A Very Kacey Christmas, and followed it up with a TV special in 2019 called The Kacey Musgraves Christmas Show.

And one of my personal favorites is a track called “Glittery,” which features pop singer Troye Sivan and was written by Kacey and Daniel Tashian.

It wasn’t featured on her original Christmas record, but included as part of the holiday special where she compares the love she feels for a man to the glitter and lights that make the Christmas season such a beautiful time of year:

“You light me up like starlight on a
Christmas tree
Every single kiss is like a
Gift to me
And I love the way you decorate my heart

Outside it’s coming down
But here inside, it’s warming up so
When you take your time
You turn me on and make my life glow
You’ve got a strange effect on me
You make me feel so glittery”

I love how sweet the lyrics are and the shimmery, glowing picture it paints of the holiday season without being overly cheesy.

And as someone who has a deep and unfailing love for glitter, not just at the holidays, but anytime of year, the concept just resonates so deeply with me.

Having Troye featured and making “Glittery” a duet brings in another cool element, and it’s easily one of the best country Christmas love songs I’ve ever heard… and that’s saying a lot for someone who tends to exclusively listen to sad music no matter what time of year it is.

Kacey’s pure and perfect vocals are unmatched, and there’s some bit of nostalgia in the production and cadence that I can’t quite put my finger on that makes the song so special.

It’s definitely overlooked in the larger conversation of great Christmas songs, especially in terms of modern day music, so if you’ve heard Mariah Carey’s “All I Want For Christmas Is You” one too many times already (and personally, I have), don’t be sleepin’ on “Glittery”:

“Glittery”
