Maury Offers To Come Out Of Retirement To Give Matthew McConaughey A DNA Test And Find Out If He’s Woody Harrelson’s Brother

“You are NOT the father.”

If you’re like me, you probably grew up watching Maury Povich.

When I was home sick from school, my days were spent watching Bob Barker on The Price Is Right and then watching Maury break up families by revealing to dads that they weren’t really the father of their children.

Those were the days.

Maury went off the air in 2022, but the host of the trashy reality show is willing to come out of retirement for one last DNA test if he got the call.

Earlier this year, Matthew McConaughey made an appearance on SiriusXM’s Let’s Talk Off Camera podcast with Kelly Ripa, where he shared the hilarious story about how he and fellow actor Woody Harrelson may actually be brothers:

“You know, where I start and where he ends, and where he starts and I end, has always been like a murky line. And that’s part of our bromance, right?

My kids call him Uncle Woody, his kids call me Uncle Matthew.”

He then said that their families would get them confused with each other while looking at old pictures, and that’s when McConaughey’s mother made a shocking comment during a trip to Greece.

He recalled:

“We’re sitting around talking about how close we are and our families, and my mom is there, and she says, ‘Woody, I knew your dad.’

Everyone was aware of the ellipses that my mom left after ‘knew.’ It was a loaded K-N-E-W.”

That’s when he and Harrelson began to take a deep dive to see if there’s any possibility that they could actually be brothers.

“We unpacked what this ‘knew’ meant and did some math and found out that his dad was on furlough at the same time that my mom and dad were in their second divorce.

Then, there’s possible receipts and places out in West Texas where there might have been a gathering, or a meeting, or a ‘knew’ moment.”

But McConaughey said he’s hesitant to get a DNA test because of the possibility of finding out that the man who he thought was his dad for his whole life, actually wasn’t.

“This is what we’re on the precipice of now, it’s a little easier for Wood to say ‘C’mon, let’s do it,’ what’s the skin in it for him?

It’s a little harder for me because he’s asking me to take a chance to go, ‘Wait a minute, you’re trying to tell me my dad may not be my dad after 53 years of believing that?’”

I’m sure you see where this is going.

Maury made his living in exactly these scenarios. Getting people to take DNA tests to solve paternity questions, and capture the reactions afterwards, was what Maury was known for.

And he’s willing to come out of retirement to do it one more time for McConaughey and Harrelson.

During a recent interview with McConaughey, E! News shared a video from Maury with the offer:

“We could do primetime, ‘DNA: Maury’s Back With Woody and Matthew.’ I’ll even get my showtime color back in my hair. Woody’s got my number. I’m ready.”

But McConaughey didn’t seem ready to take Maury up on his offer just yet:

“I don’t know if we’re going to be calling you to do it on your show, but I like the way you’re thinking.”

Man, just imagine the ratings if this were to happen. Talk about must-see TV.
