The internet is dumb.

Well, not the internet, but some of the people on it.

In an era where rumors spread like wildfire on social media whether they’re true or not, it’s impossible for artists to control what others say about them online. And Morgan Wade knows that all too well.

The Virginia native found herself at the center of those rumors lately when her friendship with Real Housewives of Beverly star Kyle Richards had people online speculating that the two were in a relationship, rumors that were only fueled even further by Richards’ divorce from her husband Mauricio Umansky.

Morgan opened up recently on the rumors, admitting that it sent her to a dark place when strangers online began gossiping about her personal life:

“I seriously thought I was going to have to go to a rehab just preventively, to keep me from doing something stupid…

I’m just a private person. I’ve always been just kind of quiet. And so when all this kind of came out, I was just, it felt like everything had been stripped from me.

And then too, your orientation, your sexuality, all that is just being discussed online by random people that don’t even know.

It’s heartbreaking.”

And now she’s shooting down the romantic rumors once and for all.

In an interview with PeopleMorgan once again insisted that the two are just friends:

“We’re friends. The Internet’s a dumb place.”

And she also says that the two have bonded so well because of their shared sobriety, as well as the fact that Richards’ mother passed away from breast cancer back in 2002 while Morgan recently tested positive for the gene that puts women at higher risk for breast cancer, leading her to undergo a double mastectomy later this year as a preventative measure:

“She helped me connect with some really good surgeons. We were talking about that and then she had the idea of us doing a documentary and following all this stuff, so we’ve been out and about. She’s just really been there for me with all that…

It’s just been such a great friendship. I know that if Kyle vouches for you, you’re a good person.”

The two poked fun at the rumors with the video for Morgan’s recent song “Fall in Love With Me,” which featured Richards playing her love interest:

“We thought it would kind of be a good idea to kind of poke fun at that and troll the trolls a little bit. The Internet is going to be popping off about this one, I’m sure.”

I mean, if you can’t beat ’em, troll ’em.

As Morgan said, the internet’s a dumb place, so there’s no use in letting it bother you.

But she’s doing her best to put the rumors to rest once and for all.
