Congratulations, amigo!

Daniel Suarez is one of the only full-time competitors in NASCAR from outside the United States.

Suarez first started racing full-time in the United States back in 2010, and in 2016 the native of Monterrey, Mexico became the first Mexican-born driver to win a championship in a NASCAR national series when he took home the Xfinity Series championship in 2016 while driving for Joe Gibbs Racing.

Then in 2022, he became the first driver from Mexico to win a Cup Series race when he got his first win at Sonoma Raceway.

The driver of the #99 for Trackhouse Racing since 2021, Suarez added another Cup Series win to his resume earlier this year when he won in a thrilling finish at Atlanta Motor Speedway.

But now he’s got another big milestone to add to his resume: He’s going to be a US citizen.

Suarez took his citizenship test today, and this evening announced to fans that he had officially passed the exam and very soon will become an American citizen:

“I passed! So that way great. It was interesting actually, having an exam. I’ve been out of school a long time. Having an exam, a verbal exam, it was a little interesting. This was the first time I had to study for an exam for a long time.”

And he also expressed his thanks not just to the fans who sent him well-wishes ahead of his exam, but also to the country that’s supported him throughout his career:

“Obviously this country has given me so much, and to now be doing the next step in my life is quite special.

I’m from Mexico and I will always be very, very proud of my country. But the United States over the last 12 years has given me so much, and I felt like it was the right time to make that step.

I just wanted to thank everyone for all your messages, for all your support, and looking forward to being a dual citizen very soon.”

Suarez obviously still has to wait on his swearing in to officially become an American citizen, which he says will hopefully come in a month or so, but our amigo is one step closer to making it happen.

Congratulations Daniel – now as a fan of Trackhouse Racing, you and Ross go out there and kick some ass this weekend in celebration.
