Oh man, talk about terrible timing…

Presidential campaign season is heating up, and given Iowa’s role as the first votes cast in the nation, the candidates are all spending a lot of time in the Hawkeye State.

Yesterday, all of the Republican candidates competing for the presidential nomination attended the Iowa GOP’s Lincoln Dinner, giving speeches as the attempted to win over voters.

But that’s not what we’re here to talk about. Because there was one awkward moment during the event, and it was all thanks to Brooks & Dunn.

Obviously former President Donald Trump is the frontrunner in the Republican field of candidates for president right now. But he’s also facing significant legal trouble after being indicted on numerous charges in both state and federal court, including allegations of mishandling classified documents.

In fact, just this week, three more charges were added to the indictment against Trump in federal court.

So he probably didn’t need a reminder of the looming threat of prison time as he walked on stage in Iowa…but that’s what he got.

While Trump generally takes the stage to Lee Greenwood’s “God Bless the USA” during his events, all of the candidates at the Iowa GOP event took the stage to the same intro music: “Only in America” by Brooks & Dunn.

It’s a classic song that’s been played by numerous candidates on the campaign trail over the years. But the line that was playing as Trump took the stage has reportedly angered the former president:

“One could end up going to prison
One just might be president”

Yikes…

People on Twitter were quick to point out the irony in the walkup song’s lyrics:

And Trump’s team is reportedly not happy with the choice of lyrics for Trump’s intro:

Yeah, that’s awkward…
