Twitter Erupts As 81-Year-Old Martha Stewart Lands On The Cover Of The ‘Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition’

Martha Stewart rose to fame as a businesswoman, writer, and television personality throughout her extensive career.

She’s also one of the few people to somehow get “cooler” by spending time in prison. Usually when celebrities are to sent to jail for white collar crime, the general public celebrates their downfall, angry at the sense of entitlement. When rich people cheat the system to get richer, the general public HATES it.

But with Martha, who spent five months in a cushy prison for securities fraud, she emerged with a certain sense of “cool grandma” energy.

She’s doing commercials with Snoop Dogg and Willie Nelson, she goes viral for her comments about wanting to date her friends hot husbands, gets a little sauced on Instagram, post the occasional thirst-trap… she’s kind of a badass.

And now, she can add yet another accolade to her impressive resume… she just became the oldest woman to land on the cover of the coveted Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition at the age of 81.

That’s right, Stewart is 2023’s face of the magazine, beating out Maye Musk who broke the record as the oldest woman to make the cover at age 74 last year. She also joins Megan Fox, Kim Petras and Brooks Nader who also got the honor this year.

Stewart weighed in on the new record in a conversation with Sports Illustrated Swimsuit:

“Usually I’m motivated by pay. But this time I was motivated by showing people that a woman my age could still look good, feel good, be good.

I thought that this is kind of historic and that I better look really good.”

Sports Illustrated Swimsuit’s editor in chief MJ Day also told the outlet:

“While the industry wavers on its arbitrary notion of beauty, our issue has stayed the course, showcasing the women of today, the women shaping the future.

Martha Stewart is a legend. The definition of a great female entrepreneur who built a dynasty against insurmountable odds.”

Martha detailed how it all went down this morning on TODAY:

Needless to say, the move to choose Stewart as the cover has turned a lot of heads, particularly on Twitter.

Some loved the choice, some hated it, and there was everything in between:
