Fans of Dutton Ranch were happy to hear that the Beth Dutton and Rip Wheeler-led show was being renewed… but now they just want to know when they’ll see Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser back on their screens.
It was back in early July that Dutton Ranch aired its Season 1 finale. The series’ inaugural run was – to no surprise – a big hit for Paramount+. It was being described as a “Yellowstone Season 6″ leading up to its premiere, and the drama that followed Beth and Rip to Texas certainly lived up to that hype.
Before Season 1 had even concluded, Paramount announced there would be a Season 2.
But unlike its fellow Yellowstone spinoff – Marshals – it doesn’t seem as though there will be a quick turnaround for Dutton Ranch. The Kayce Dutton-led procedural over on CBS only made fans wait five or so months between the first and second seasons. Season 1’s finale aired at the end of May, and its Season 2 premiere is set for October 4.
As for Dutton Ranch, its final episode of Season 1 dropped on July 3, and they aren’t even expected to start filming for Season 2 until early 2027. That’s according to Kelly Reilly, who told The Hollywood Reporter a couple of months back that they were working to get the writers room up and running soon… but wouldn’t get to shooting until the calendar flipped from 2026 to 2027:
“We’re slated to start early 2027 to film. But the room starts up pretty quick. I think we’re going to be very much involved in the room, so the next sort of six months is all about writing it.”
For reference, Season 1 of Dutton Ranch started filming in August of 2025, and eventually aired its first episode in May of 2026 – around two months after it wrapped filming (and 11 months after it began shooting). So if you followed along on that timeline for Season 2, and Dutton Ranch began shooting scenes in January of February of 2027, it would probably mean that Season 2 would premiere in late 2027.
That’s a long gap between seasons, and very much out of the norm for Taylor Sheridan shows (Landman is also facing a lengthy wait between seasons). But I’m sure it’ll all be worth it… especially with Sheridan reportedly joining the writers room for Season 2 after being absent from it for Season 1.
That’s another thing that Kelly Reilly excitedly told The Hollywood Reporter. According to the actress and executive producer, Taylor Sheridan is going to do everything he can to have a more active role in the storytelling for Dutton Ranch‘s second season:
“I think Taylor is going to be involved as far as some story ideas as well, which is great. I feel excited about season two because I want it to be better. I want it to be great. I’m excited to get my hands dirty after a bit of time to digest what we’ve just done.”
Reilly, who also serves as one of the show’s executive producers (alongside her co-star Cole Hauser), admitted that there were times when they were putting together Season 1 and wondering how they could possibly go forth without Sheridan there leading the way. Now they won’t have to wonder.
But all of us will have to wait. If all goes well and according to plan, there should be new episodes of Dutton Ranch in 2027.
“We’re just getting started. ‘Dutton Ranch’ has been renewed for Season 2!”
