Landman fans… brace yourselves for some bad news. Everyone’s favorite oil drama will not be returning in 2026.
After the chaotic ending to the oil drama’s second season, fans of the hit Taylor Sheridan show have been chomping at the bit to find out what will happen with all of their favorite characters, like Billy Bob Thornton’s Tommy Norris or Demi Moore’s Cami Miller.
For the show’s first two seasons, the Billy Bob Thornton-led show stuck to a very strict shooting and airing schedule. Actors, actresses and everyone in between would show up on set in the Spring, shoot 10 episodes, and then the series would be ready to go starting in the Fall.
It appeared that things were originally on schedule for that to happen again for Season 3, but we’ve slowly but surely found out that Landman has been hit with some delays (of which, we don’t know the exact reasoning).
Jane Wiseman, the EVP and Head of Originals at Paramount+, recently spoke with Complex, and in the interview, she talked about what’s to come with Paramount and Taylor Sheridan. Anytime Landman was mentioned, it was spoken about as “on its way” rather than in the can:
“That is the hope, and that is the intention. We have ‘Frisco King’ coming. We have a couple things that I can’t talk about, but we work very closely with Taylor and David Glasser. We have a really great relationship, and the idea that we have more ‘Madison’ coming, we have more ‘Landman’ coming, we have more ‘Dutton’ coming.
And there are a couple things that we’ve been discussing that we would love to get on the service before 29. But we know that his legacy will remain with us for many, many years to come because of all the shows I just mentioned.”
Interestingly, Wiseman seems to be positioning the talk of the existing shows in a way that makes me think they could still continue even after Sheridan exits to NBC Universal in 2029. Would a show like Landman be as good without him behind it? That I’m not so sure about.
Later in that same interview, Wiseman also stated that Sheridan is currently writing Tulsa King and Landman. Since the interview happened earlier this week (it was published on August 23), that means Landman is still actively being written late into August of 2026:
“Between ‘Tulsa’ and ‘Landman,’ which Taylor is writing right now. ‘Frisco,’ ‘Dutton,’ ‘Madison,’ we have a lot of business, and we’re going to be in business for time to come.”
In years past, each season has premiered in mid-November. Safe to say that’s not going to happen for Season 3, and that there’s really no chance that Landman will return in 2026.
Legendary actor Sam Elliott, who plays T.L. Norris in the show, had said in late 2025 that they were looking to get back to work around April or May of 2026. But thanks to some quotes provided to US Weekly by James Jordan… we knew that Landman Season 3 was more than a couple of months behind schedule.
The actor behind Dale Bradley told the outlet that he’s seen a script for Season 3, and that it’s “going to be amazing.” He also stated that he was excited to “get back” to the Fort Worth area to shoot the third season:
“I’ve got the Season 3 script. It was sent to me right in this phone. I will guard it with my life. But I snuck a quick peek. I really have to read it later, but it’s going to be amazing…
Everybody’s very excited to get back to work. It’s going to be a great time. We’re pumped to get back to the Fort Worth area and shoot season 3.”
Jordan provided that quote in late July. In other words, they hadn’t even started on Season 3 yet at the time, and still haven’t.
What Jordan had to say lined up with how Wiseman spoke about the show: Sheridan is still writing episodes for the third season. He says the 10 episodes that will eventually make their way onto Paramount+ will match the energy of the first two seasons, and also revealed that they aren’t planning on getting back to work on it until September:
“It’s going to be fantastic. Taylor is writing as we speak. It’s going to be 10 crazy, wonderful, funny and wild episodes — just like season 1 and season 2 have been. Billy Bob and everybody, we’re all ready to get back to work.
I believe we’re bringing back the same director, Stephen Kay, who I adore. So it’s going to be a great ride. We start that sometime in September and we’ll shoot that through the first quarter of next year. Then we should have it out … I don’t know when. It’s up to the powers that be, but we’re very excited to get started on that.”
So shooting from September through the beginning of the next year will likely lead to a mid-to-late 2027 release of Landman Season 3. With past seasons, they’ve shot for five or so months, and then usually take two to three months for post-production. If they wrapped in January at the earliest, Season 3 would probably premiere sometime around April or May.
Not exactly an exciting update… but at least the timeline has become more clear for the return of the fan-favorite series.
