Never heard of an AquaDam? Don’t worry, I never heard of it until this wild story from 2016.
That’s when a fella by the name of Randy Wagner put one up to protect his Rosharon, TX (right near Houston) home during a bad flood that year.
Now, according to the Star-Telegram, these barriers which protect homes and businesses from flooding, are in high demand (back then they were dealing with Tropical Storm Harvey).
“To not know what that level was going to stop at, I needed to prepare for something that no one has seen,” Wagner (who purchased it for $8,300) told USA Today.
“I was the crazy guy. Everybody was kinda going by, laughing at me. But today they are really impressed with this AquaDam.”
According to a report in 2016, the waters rose to 27 inches around Randy Wagner’s home but never made it through. Hopefully we can see more innovation like this in parts of the country where floods can decimate property, take lives, and leave people without their homes and businesses.
Wagner added, “$8,300 is to me a small investment on a house that could have two feet of water in it and cost me $150,000 in repairs.”
