The beloved Alex Trebek, longtime host of Jeopardy, has finally lost his battle with pancreatic cancer.

According to TMZ, Trebek passed away today at his home early this morning. He was 80 years old.

“Jeopardy is saddened to share that Alex Trebek passed away peacefully at home early this morning, surrounded by family and friends.”

Alex was originally diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer in March of 2019. He battled on for over a year, constantly updating fans throughout the difficult process.

During an episode last year, one contestant wrote “We love you Alex!” as his Final Jeopardy answer. Alex immediately choked up and so did the rest of the Jeopardy-watching world.

Alex began hosting Jeopardy in 1984, and quite honestly, I don’t know anybody is going to be able to fill those shoes.

Over the course of the past couple years, me and Steve would occasionally wander over to this little hole-in-the-wall dive bar by our office called Burton’s Place, right around 3:00pm. Drink a few beers, watch Alex on Jeopardy… it sounds pretty mundane but it’s honestly some of my fondest memories over the past couple years.

It doesn’t seem like people can agree on much these days, but we can all agree on this: Alex Trebek is one of a kind.

RIP Alex.
