Eric Church, Sturgill Simpson, Bill Murray & More To Appear For John Prine Tribute Concert

This past April, we lost the legendary John Prine to Coronavirus, and this Thursday, his friends, family, and a bevy of artists, all of whom would call him a hero, are coming together to honor his memory.

Titled “Picture Show: A Tribute Celebrating John Prine,” the virtual tribute concert will premiere this Thursday, June 11 at 6:30pm CT on Prine’s YouTube, Facebook and Twitch channels.

The guest list features some of the best in the business, including Courtney Marie Andrews, Dan Auerbach, Kevin Bacon, Brené Brown, Brandi Carlile, Eric Church, Dave Cobb, Stephen Colbert, Peter Cooper, Iris DeMent, John Dickerson, Mitchell Drosin, David Ferguson, Vince Gill, Jason Isbell, Jeremy Ivey, Jim James, Pat McLaughlin, Bill Murray, Kacey Musgraves, Margo Price, Fiona Whelan Prine, Jack Prine, Tommy Prine, Bonnie Raitt, The Secret Sisters, Kyra Sedgwick, Amanda Shires, Sturgill Simpson, Todd Snider, Billy Bob Thornton, Kurt Vile, Kelsey Waldon, Sara Watkins, Jody Whelan, John Paul White, Rita Wilson and Prine’s longtime band (Kenneth Blevins, David Jacques, Fats Kaplin, Jason Wilber).

The tribute will feature memories of John, of course some songs and rare behind the scenes footage of John. The concert will also work to raise money for NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness), Alive, a Virginia-based initiative that works to combat poverty, and Make the Road New York.

Here’s a little preview of what we might get to see. Shortly after John’s death this past April, Eric Church raised a glass to John with an emotional rendition of “Long Monday.”
