Taylor Sheridan might be the busiest man in the entertainment industry… but he’s still going to find some time to get into the writer’s room for Season 2 of Dutton Ranch.
The Yellowstone creator continues to be the mind and influence behind various television hits that bring in millions of viewers per episode. For today’s standards, that’s almost uncalled for, but Sheridan has evidently cracked the code. He’s got plenty of Yellowstone spinoffs actively in production or on the way, and he’s already established other successful worlds within shows like Mayor of Kingstown, The Madison and Landman.
Considering it’s hard for the viewer to keep up with everything that Taylor Sheridan has going on, I can’t imagine how Sheridan himself feels with all of the plates he has spinning. And nothing is slowing down for him in 2026, and as the calendar flips to 2027. But somehow, Sheridan is going to try and work his way back into the writer’s room for Season 2 of Dutton Ranch.
The Beth Dutton and Rip Wheeler-focused series has already aired the entirety of its first season, and while most fans see it as the closest thing to the continuation of Yellowstone, there were some viewers out there that could tell something was different. It makes sense that it felt that way, because Sheridan didn’t have a part in writing the inaugural season of the spinoff.
According to Kelly Reilly, that’s going to change for the upcoming season. The actress excitedly told The Hollywood Reporter that Taylor Sheridan is going to do everything he can to have a more active role in the storytelling for Dutton Ranch‘s second season:
“I think Taylor is going to be involved as far as some story ideas as well, which is great. I feel excited about season two because I want it to be better. I want it to be great. I’m excited to get my hands dirty after a bit of time to digest what we’ve just done.”
Reilly, who also serves as one of the show’s executive producers (alongside her co-star Cole Hauser), admitted that there were times when they were putting together Season 1 and wondering how they could possibly go forth without Sheridan there leading the way.
That being said, the actress behind Beth Dutton says the work they did in the first season made Taylor Sheridan proud:
“There was a moment where we were trying to figure out, how do we do this without him? That’s what season one of this was. And now we realize that we’ve got it a little bit because of the work we’ve done with him and because of the gifts of these characters he’d given us. And he’s really proud of us for doing it.”
“We talk to him now about what the next season could be, and he wants to be involved.”
I have no idea how Taylor Sheridan will have the time to help with Dutton Ranch, but if he is returning to the writer’s room (and it sounds like he is), that’s great news for fans. If you loved the first season of the spinoff, then you’ll be sure to love it that much more with Sheridan back in the fold.
