Big Ol’ Beaver Escapes Coyote In Pursuit At Canadian Golf Course

Coyote and Beaver

This husky beaver had to really get on its high horse to escape a coyote in pursuit at a golf course in Vancouver.

There’s nothing like a day out on the golf course. Even if you shoot a few (or a bunch) over par, there’s just something about being outside and being one with nature… and drinking a couple of beers and powering through some hot dogs at the turn. And funny enough, the game that is played outdoors already involves a lot of animals. Even the casual golfers and golf fans know about birdies and eagles, right?

In case you don’t, “birdie” is a score that’s one-under-par, and the word “eagle” is reserved for a score in golf that’s two-under-par. In other words, if you are good at golf, or at least play with someone who is, you are likely to see a birdie or an eagle out on the links.

I’m not sure how talented the golfers were who took this video at Vancouver’s McCleery Golf Course, but they got to see a beaver and a coyote while they played. No, that’s not some sort of wild score you can get in golf. This was a high-stakes fight for survival. Right in the middle of a round, and in broad daylight, a coyote set its sights on a chunky beaver. I don’t want to weight shame here…but let’s just say the coyote really had the upper hand if things came down to a foot race.

Though beavers can swim quickly with ease, they aren’t exactly known for their land speed. If the dam-building creature could have taken this showdown in the water, it’d be a way different story. The poor beaver was at full speed trying to get away from the wild canine. As for the coyote, it was more so trotting, and looked to be expending little to no energy. All that to say, if the coyote really wanted to set the table for a buck-toothed dinner, it easily could have.

But according to this post, the beaver somehow and inexplicably escaped death and got away from the coyote. How? I’m not entirely sure… other than maybe the coyote deciding it wanted a leaner meal at the last minute. Good for this beaver for beating the odds and getting away from this predator. It evidently lived to see another day – and build another dam – and something tells me it’ll be bragging about this getaway any chance it gets.

Check it out:

“Vancouver’s McCleery golf course. Never seen a beaver run so fast! Glad he was able to get away from the coyote.”

Yeah, I’m still not entirely sure how that beaver got away. It had to be its lucky day, because there absolutely no way that it was able to outrun the coyote quite literally on its tail. But hey… it goes to show that you don’t always have to be fast or be the best athlete to get ahead in life.

That’s the kind of inspiration I’m looking for.
