The Caitlin Clark disrespect continues, and one of the WNBA’s all-time-great players recently rushed to defend the Indiana Fever guard after she was voted 11th best guard in the league by her peers.
Yeah, you read that right. Clark currently leads the WNBA in many different statistics, and already has the 4th most Player of the Month awards by a guard in WNBA history, and the league still doesn’t care. I only say that because her WNBA counterparts had the opportunity to vote on who the best players in the league were ahead of the league’s All-Star game, and they said she’s the 11th best guard in the W.
Not the 11th best player… the 11th best guard. That’s utterly absurd.
With the WNBA’s All-Star game coming up on July 25, the voting to determine who gets All-Star honors commenced in the last couple of weeks. In no surprise at all, Caitlin Clark was named an All-Star starter. And though she got an overwhelming amount of All-Star votes from fans, and the media to some extent, Clark’s fellow WNBA players didn’t show her the same love.
They voted her the 11th best guard in the league, and just to be clear, that means that other WNBA players believe there are 1o players at the guard position better than Caitlin Clark. Last year, Clark was ranked 9th… so she somehow got even worse in the eyes of the players across the W:
Blasphemous.
Fortunately, there have been plenty of players, talking heads, and former WNBA stars that have stepped in to call out the wrongdoing by the WNBA. One of those individuals siding with Caitlin Clark is Candace Parker: a retired 3-time WNBA Champion and 2-time WNBA MVP.
I mention those accolades because she knows what it takes to be a star, and to be a winner, and she said on her Post Moves podcast that the WNBA players that aren’t showing respect for Caitlin Clark should be ashamed of themselves:
“I wholeheartedly believe that there needs to be some rules with the WNBA players because this is getting out of hand. Caitlin Clark voted 11th best guard by WNBA players? That’s crazy
When I sat down, as much as I did not like Diana Taurasi, there ain’t no way I’m not going to write her as an All-Star person. As much as I did not like anybody on the Lynx because they used to whoop our a**, I’m not going to not put Maya Moore or Sylvia Fowles.”
Exactly.
It really just comes down to sportsmanship, and right now, the WNBA is lacking in that department. Parker went on to say that everyone that discredited Clark’s accomplishments by not casting votes for her should take a long look in the mirror:
“I don’t know. I think people need to look at themselves in the mirror and realize, like, man, you’ve got some insecurities if you’re sitting down and putting Caitlin Clark as the 11th best guard.
Y’all need to go to a therapist and figure out what childhood issues you have. Cause if you’re sitting there and looking at yourself in the mirror and putting her as 11th best guard and you’re putting you as eighth best, like, come on.”
Damn straight.
