It’s becoming clear that the Emmys and Taylor Sheridan don’t get along… the Yellowstone creator was once again snubbed by the Television Academy.
There’s probably not anyone in the TV industry busier than Taylor Sheridan. Though his flagship series is wrapped up, he continues to be the mind behind various other hits that bring in millions of viewers per episode. For today’s standards, that’s almost uncalled for… but Sheridan has evidently cracked the code.
Yellowstone‘s story has continued through shows like Marshals and Dutton Ranch, and he’s obviously gone back and provided some world-building-history with his prequel series 1883 and 1923. And if you happen to like Taylor Sheridan shows outside of the Yellowstone universe, he’s kept those coming as well.
It’s almost unfathomable to think about how many plates Sheridan currently has spinning, and how he continues to not miss whatsoever. Season 4 of Tulsa King is right around the corner (and Frisco King is on its way), Mayor Kingstown will air its fifth and final season within the next year, Lioness kicks off it’s third season in a couple of weeks, and the smash-hit Landman will likely return for Season 3 in early 2027.
The Madison, which ended up not being connected to the Yellowstone universe, was one of the best dramatic shows to air this year.
It’s no secret that Taylor Sheridan has a large fanbase that follows him to whatever show he’s behind. And it’s safe to say that fans love that Sheridan keeps his shows on a regular schedule, releasing new seasons every single year (with the exception of Yellowstone) in an age where other programs have two or even three year gaps between seasons.
Despite the love that Sheridan gets from fans, the writer and director rarely ever gets the credit he deserves from critics. That trend unfortunately continued with the latest Emmy nominations. Of all the shows I just mentioned that are currently on television (minus Dutton Ranch… it didn’t air in the time span to be eligible), Sheridan shows received an insulting one nomination across the board.
Landman, Lioness, Mayor of Kingstown, The Madison and Marshals were completely snubbed, receiving zero combined nominations. The mafia drama series Tulsa King got a nomination for “Outstanding Stunt Coordination for Comedy Programming,” which they seem to collect every year (and never end up winning).
Think of all the great acting throughout all of the Sheridan shows. Are you thinking about it? Well get this… no actor or actress in a Taylor Sheridan show was nominated for an acting award. And there are some big names that would certainly like a word. Michelle Pfieffer undoubtedly should have scored a “Best Actress” nomination for her work in The Madison, yet the drama received no love at all.
The old saying goes that “if something happens once, it’s a coincidence… if it happens twice, it’s a pattern.” If you ask me, the Emmys – and every other awards show out there for that matter – seem to have a vendetta against Taylor Sheridan. How could one person be responsible for so much quality, highly-viewed television and never be awarded for it?
The good news is that Taylor Sheridan doesn’t care one bit about it. In a recent interview on The Bill Simmons Podcast, the creator, director and writer straight up said he’s not seeking out awards:
“You’re not going to win no Emmys with me, but I’m not trying to win Emmys. The critics and me, I don’t care what they think, and it annoys the shit out of them that I don’t care.”
Something tells me the Emmys probably saw that quote and made sure that none of Taylor Sheridan’s shows got nominated… just as they do year after year.
