Maren Morris Says She “Doesn’t Have The Headspace” To Start Dating Again Yet Amid Divorce From Ryan Hurd

Not ready to get back out there just yet.

A couple months ago, Maren Morris filed for divorce from her husband of five years, fellow singer and songwriter Ryan Hurd, citing “irreconcilable differences.”

It was around the same time that Maren announced she would be leaving country music, calling it a “toxic” institution, though she’s since walked that back in subsequent interviews.

But it sounds like she’s not changing her mind about the divorce, speaking about it during a recent appearance on The Howard Stern Show.

When asked if she had started dating again yet, Maren said she’s waiting for her divorce to wrap up first:

“I would like this to sort of wrap up. I don’t have the headspace for that yet. But I’m writing so much right now. That’s kind of been my way of dating, is just through song.”

While Maren says that she’d like the divorce to wrap up, her soon-to-be ex-husband has yet to file a response to her divorce complaint, and Tennessee has a mandatory 90-day waiting period for couples with minor children. That means that even if they agree on everything from the split of assets to the custody and parenting plan for their son, the earliest the divorce could be finalized by the court would be December 31, which is 90 days after Maren filed for divorce on October 2.

Because Hurd has yet to respond to the complaint, we don’t know if there are any disagreements between the divorcing couple that could drag the process out even longer.

But we also have some insight into the disagreements that led to the divorce in the first place.

According to an article from Life & Style Magazine, the couple had been having problems for awhile – and part of the reason is all of the drama Maren’s caused in the country music industry.

Maren’s never really been afraid to ruffle feathers, speaking out against Jason Aldean’s wife Brittany last year for what Maren called “transphobic” comments, claiming that she didn’t feel safe at the CMA Awards, calling out Morgan Wallen amid his racial slur controversy, and even beefing with Fox News host Tucker Carlson.

She also recently spoke out against Oliver Anthony’s viral hit “Rich Men North of Richmond,” calling the song “problematic.”

So yeah, Maren’s pissed off a few people in Nashville over the years.

And apparently that caused problems in her marriage, because some of those people she’s upset were her husband Ryan Hurd’s co-writers – and all of her comments were beginning to have an effect on Hurd’s career.

According to the article’s inside source:

“All he wanted to do was write music, but some of the people Ryan writes with are people Maren has made mad, and it caused a huge problem between them.”

The source also says that Maren just “wants a break from it all,” which seems ironic considering she’s usually the one inserting herself into the drama in the first place.

Either way, it sounds like Maren speaking out finally upset enough people that it was making her husband’s career harder, which may have led to the split.

And it sounds like Maren’s just ready to put it all behind her.
