The KING.

George Strait paid tribute to his late friend Keith Gattis with a perfect performance of “I Got A Car” during a special concert at the Brooklyn Bowl Nashville last week.

Keith Gattis was a gifted songwriter who wrote for George, in addition to the likes of Kenny ChesneyWillie NelsonRandy TravisKid RockMiranda LambertRandy Houser, and Wade Bowen, just to name a few.

Gattis passed away back in April at the age of 52, and he reportedly died from injuries sustained during a tractor accident. He sadly left behind his wife Penny and their two young children.

“I Got A Car” was written by Gattis along with Tom Douglas, and Strait included it as the third single from his 2013 Love Is Everything album. It later peaked at #17 on the Billboard U.S. Country Airplay chart, and has since been certified Gold by the RIAA.

His performance here is just as charismatic and charming as usual, as he introduced the “surprise” song:

“We’re gonna do a surprise… a Keith Gattis song called ‘I Got A Car.'”

The man ages like the finest wine money could buy, and he easily delivered one of the performances of the night to a very ecstatic crowd (obviously… I can’ imagine seeing The King in a small venue like the Brooklyn Bowl ).

RIP Keith Gattis.
