CBS And Five For Fighting Team Up For “100 Days To The Super Bowl” Song And It’s Just Weird

Listen, I’m a football and a Five for Fighting fan.

Some may even describe me as a football guy who gets mad when roughing the passer gets called every time a quarterback gets hit and thinks that most teams should get back to a Power I formation and start running the ball down the defense’s throat.

I grew up on “100 Years”, “Superman”, and “Chances” and will still absolutely go wild anytime I hear one of them because it brings me back to some awesome childhood memories.

All of that is to say that I’m as pumped as anyone that football season is in full swing and I typically fall hard for pump up videos, especially when they feature an artist I like, but this is just not it.

Super Bowl 58 is being held in Las Vegas this upcoming February and today marks 100 days until the biggest of all sporting events takes place. There’s still lots of contenders out there and many teams poised to make a run if their offense can get it together (cough cough my Pittsburgh Steelers), so when I first saw CBS post this video, I thought it may be one of those that got me ready to run through a wall.

But was I wrong…

CBS just posted a video to their social media featuring none other than Vladimir John Ondrasik III, the lead singer of Five for Fighting, playing a remix of their hugely popular song “100 Years” from their 2004 album The Battle For Everything and while I see what they were going for, it just really doesn’t hit…

Vlad changed the lyrics to try and fit some jersey numbers and morph the song into some anthem for the NFL season but it’s just so clunky and honestly doesn’t make much sense. Not to mention Five for Fighting is a hockey reference…

Here’s the lyrics…

“I’m 15 for a moment
Caught in between 1 and 97
And I’m just dreaming
Counting the ways to where you are
I’m 17 for a moment
And he’s playing better than ever
And we’re on fire
Making our way back from stars

16 there’s still time for you
Time to win and time to lose
It’s your dream
There’s never a wish better than this
When you only got 100 days to the Super Bowl”

The video itself features players throughout the league who have those numbers and some that don’t and shows some clear Super Bowl contending teams and others that really don’t have a shot. I get putting 49ers and Dolphins players in, but did we really have to show the Texans and Broncos? I’m all for teams making a late season run, but do we really think Gardner Minshew (for as cool of a dude as he is) can lead the Colts all the way?

Just in all, I feel this was a swing and a miss and I’m not alone. Check out some of the comments from Instagram, TikTok, and X responses below.

“What the f*ck”

“Wtf is this”

“17 is not playing better than ever”

Is the actual song an absolute banger? 100%. Am I pumped that football is in the midst of yet another great year? You betcha. But is this the video to get everyone ready and looking forward to “The Big Game”? I don’t think so in the slightest…

I mean, am I wrong?
