If you’ve fished for long enough (or maybe even not long at all), there’s a good chance that your line has gotten caught up in something you didn’t mean for it to.
Whether it was brush, rocks, or some piece of debris sitting beneath the surface of the water, it can be a big pain in the ass to always be cutting the line and retying lures. Not to mention the cost of constantly losing lures to snags.
However, I think only a few of us (if any) can ever say that their hook has gotten caught in an actual bird… Yes, you read that correctly.
This wild scenario became a reality for popular fishing influencer Justin Royal. In the video, you can see that Royal’s hook got wrapped around a large blue heron’s foot when he accidentally nails it with a cast.
The bird tries to fly away, but was obviously restricted due to the line. So, Royal basically had to reel the bird back in, even though it was obviously afraid and trying to escape from him.
He was able to get the bird onto the boat, and after a major struggle between Royal and the bird, he was able to free it and set it free.
It was pretty easy to see just how much stress the blue heron was under during the whole ordeal, but props to him for getting the job done… respect.
Royal wrote in the caption:
“I accidentally hooked a giant Blue Heron while bass fishing and had to switch into rescue mode.
As you can see, the bird was unharmed but it was an ordeal and both me and the bird were pretty shaken up after this.”
