The KING.

George Strait delivered an absolutely brilliant cover of Johnny Cash’s “Folsom Prison Blues” during his headlining performance at ATLive this past weekend.

After sets by the great Willie Nelson and Carrie Underwood, Mr. Strait took the stage and crushed this cover of one of the all-time country classics… and let’s be honest, that’s no easy feat.

Originally written in 1953, “Folsom Prison Blues” was recorded at Sun Studio in Memphis in 1955. Years later, in January of 1968, Cash would go on to record a live version of the song from Folsom Prison itself, catapulting the hit to the top of the charts.

It was later released on Cash’s At Folsom Prison album, the most successful album of his entire career.

I think most country fans know how important and iconic that song is, and hearing George Strait, obviously a modern-day country icon himself, cover it and do it justice like this is so damn cool.

I’ve never once in my life heard The King do a bad cover, and I’m quite convinced I never will…

Do yourself a favor and check it out, you’ll be glad you did. Here’s to the Man in Black:
