The Big Dog Daddy is heading back out on the road.

Toby Keith has been largely out of the public eye since revealing last year that he was battling stomach cancer and canceling his 2022 tour.

But you can’t keep a cowboy down for very long.

The singer’s representatives told Fox News Digital over the summer that Toby is “feeling good” and that they are “anticipating Toby will be on the road again soon.”

And Toby himself told The Oklahoman recently that he’s ready to test the waters to see if he’s up to getting back on stage:

“I’ve got more wind. And I’m thinking about bringing the band in and setting up, playing two or three days somewhere just to see if I can get through two hours.

All I gotta do is see if I can get through two or three nights of work and get a little break in this chemo, and we’ll go back to work.”

Toby did just that a few months ago, performing two surprise pop-up shows at Hollywood Corners, a bar that he owns in his home state of Oklahoma during what was supposed to just be a short rehearsal to test the waters.

And more recently, Toby gave his first televised performance since his cancer diagnosis with a heartbreaking performance of “Don’t Let The Old Man In” at the People’s Choice Country Awards last month, where he also gave an update on his health and his future plans:

“I’ve walked some dark hallways. The Almighty’s riding shotgun.

But I feel pretty good. You have good days and bad days, but it’s a little bit of a rollercoaster. But I’m doing a lot better than I was this time last year.

I’ve always wrote with a prayer, and as long as I have Him with me, I’m cool. You just have to dig in, you don’t have a choice.”

Then just last week, Toby made a surprise appearance onstage during Jason Aldean’s concert in his home state of Oklahoma, where it sounded like he was ready to get back out on the road:

“I’m on my rehab tour. If I ain’t at my bar I’m down at Hollywood Corners or I’m on stage with Jason Aldean.

But the Almighty’s been riding shotgun and my ass is gettin’ ready to go back to work.”

Well now, Toby’s ass is finally ready to get back to work.

In a video, the country star announced that he would be heading to Las Vegas to perform two shows at Dolby Live at the Park at MGM on December 10 and 11, his first full shows since undergoing treatment for cancer.

“I was going to sit around here and do nothing like I have been, or get up and get outside and don’t let the old man in, you know what I mean?”

Toby called the two shows “rehab shows” to get the band back in sync and get him rolling again, after the longest stretch he’s ever gone without being on stage:

“First time in my whole life I’ve been off over two years. I’ve never been off a year in my life.

Through COVID and cancer, the ol’ devil’s been after me a little bit. I got him by the horns right now, so instead of just sitting around and waiting, we’re going to get the band back together.”

It’s great to see Toby hitting the road again and ready to play some of his own shows – as he says, “Big Dog Daddy Style.”
