Will Ferrell is a national treasure.
The legendary comedian seems to just be doing “side quests” right now, with this appearance on Thursday Night Football In The Shop, as well as a stop on the Manningcast last week, and recently DJ-ing at his son’s fraternity house.
And I don’t know about you, but I’m always happy to see Will Ferrell pop up on something that I’m watching. Ferrell is like a comedic secret ingredient in any situation: If you add him in, he’s going to make the moment hilarious and memorable.
Ferrell is behind some of the greatest comedy movies that have ever been made. Step Brothers, Anchorman, The Other Guys, Elf, I mean the list could go on and on.
You might notice that I excluded one particular blockbuster from that list, and that’s because Ferrell actually reprised his role as the talented and troubled NASCAR driver Ricky Bobby during last night’s alternate broadcast of Thursday Night Football.
If you aren’t familiar with The Shop, the show features professional athlete and media entrepreneur LeBron James and sports businessman and media mogul Maverick Carter hosting other guests to talk about basically anything.
Amazon Prime featured The Shop as alternate broadcasts last year during a couple of Thursday Night matchups, and they decided to bring them back this year after it went over well in the first year.
It is yet another example of media enterprises capitalizing on one of the strangest phenomenons I’ve ever seen: People enjoy watching other people watch things.
I usually just like to watch the game, but bringing in Will Ferrell had me interested, and then I was really hooked when Ferrell came onto the set of the show in full Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby gear.
Take a look at his entrance, rocking his pre-Wonder Bread sponsor “Laughing Clown Malt Liquor” fire suit:
Dressing up for an appearance on a show is pretty normal for Will Ferrell. He once was a guest on The Tonight Show and dressed up as the snack cake mascot Little Debbie (you can see that here).
Ferrell stayed in the racing suit for the entire broadcast, and was hilarious basically the entire time. He certainly seems like the life of the party, and appears to never turn off his sense of humor.

Oh, and you can’t mention the NFL nowadays (especially the Kansas City Chiefs) without talking about Taylor Swift.
Will Ferrell wasn’t afraid to let his fanboy-ing shine through when the Amazon Prime Video broadcast of the Chiefs taking on the horrible Denver Broncos team showed Taylor Swift on the screen:
