It’s never a bad time to throw it back to 90’s country, especially if it’s for some of Tim McGraw’s best work.

Everyone has their own favorite McGraw album, but its hard to argue that his breakthrough project Not a Moment Too Soon is not high up there on the list.

The album was released in March of 1994, and on this date (29 years ago) it was number one on the Billboard Top 200 and Country charts.

Not a Moment Too Soon was McGraw’s second studio album, and certainly cemented his place as a star in the country music industry. Having your second album go to the top of the country charts is impressive, but making your mark on the Billboard Top 200 is the more noteworthy accomplishment.

Its crossover appeal brought McGraw into the mainstream, and its long running success on the country charts (it stayed at number one for 26 consecutive weeks) helped Not a Moment Too Soon become the best selling album for Billboard in 1994.

The project was even named the Album of the Year for 1994 by the Academy of Country Music, which was a pretty easy choice when you look at the track list.

Songs like “Indian Outlaw,” “Down on the Farm,” and “Refried Dreams” helped to bolster the album, while number one hits “Not a Moment Too Soon” and “Don’t Take the Girl” made McGraw one of the hottest country music singers of the 1990’s.

I’ve got a feeling that you’ve most likely heard all of these songs (probably hundreds of times), but it never hurts to take a trip down McGraw memory lane and relive some of the hits he brought to life.

One could make a case that this first song featured below is the most recognizable of his career, which is a pretty big accomplishment to have just two albums into your country music making tenure.

“Don’t Take The Girl”

And if you want to hear a song go “full country,” look no further than “Down On The Farm.” It checks all of the boxes that a great 90’s country song needs to cover, and I mean that in the best way possible.

“Down On The Farm”

Then you have the album’s title track, which like “Don’t Take the Girl,” opts to slow things down and show more of the emotional side of McGraw. I’d venture to say that it also does a great job of showcasing Tim’s underrated vocals.
