Massive Komodo Dragon Gulps Down Entire Goat In One Bite

Dinosaurs, as we all know, are extinct, but if you want to see something like them that still walks the Earth today, look no further than the Komodo Dragon.

These creatures, which look more like alligators or crocodiles, are the largest living species of lizard on the planet. They can grow to be over 10-feet long in length and can way upwards of 180 pounds.

Though they may only top out at 12 miles per hour on land, they can still get a move on when they need to, which makes them that much more terrifying. And if that’s not doing it for you, may you be interested in knowing that Komodo Dragons have a venomous bite?

They aren’t the only lizards that do so, but their bite packs a pretty effective punch, possessing the ability to lower their prey’s blood pressure and sending them into shock, which makes the rest of the kill effortless for the predator.

We don’t know if this goat was discovered deceased, or if the Komodo Dragon was responsible for bringing it to a lifeless state, but we do know that the lizard was able to gulp it down with relative ease.

The lizard quickly makes its way over to the goat laying on the ground and decides to dive right in. Within a minute, only the hooves of the smaller goat are sticking out of the Komodo Dragon’s mouth.

And you might be wondering “how do they digest all of that at once,” and that’s a great question. Turns out after they swallow something of this size, they go lay out in the sun and harness the heat to help the digestive process.

They also eventually regurgitate something called a gastric pellet afterwards, which is made up of bones, teeth, hair and whatever else their stomach can’t break down. Sounds like a gross trade off to me, but I guess the dragons don’t seem to mind.

This unbelievable video was posted to X with the caption:

“The Komodo dragon is the largest extant species of lizard & can eat up to 80% of its body weight in one meal.

While it mostly eats carrion, the view of a goat that gets swallowed in one bite is truly impressive.”

X users (formerly Twitter) were mesmerized by the Komodo Dragon making short work of the small goat, and even cracked a couple of jokes about the whole thing:

If that’s how you are eating your ribeye, you might have a problem…
