Charles Wesley Godwin Delivers Incredible Rendition Of “Rollin’ In My Sweet Baby’s Arms” In New Documentary

A Charles Wesley Godwin live show is second to none.

Today, he released a short documentary-style film with footage from his sold-out show at Stage AE in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania this past February, and it’s so damn cool.

If you’ve seen the West Virginia native before in concert, then you already know how good he is live, but if you haven’t… this is all the evidence I really need to prove it.

And during the performance, he broke out an oldie that most people think of as a Flatt & Scruggs song called “Rollin’ in My Sweet Baby’s Arms,” which was likely derived from lyrics in the cowboy song “My Lula Gal,” a development of the British and Appalachian song “Bang Bang Rosie” or “Bang Away Lulu.”

The Flatt & Scruggs version was released as a single by Lester Flatt, Earl Scruggs and the Foggy Mountain Boys in 1951, and Buck Owens released a cover version in August of 1971 as the second single from his Ruby album. Owen’s rendition peaked at #2 on the U.S. Billboard Hot Country Singles chart.

Charles introduced the song by telling the Pittsburgh crowd they needed a little more West Virginia in the building, and that’s exactly what he was there to do:

“We’re gonna bring a little West Virginia north of the border for you.”

And not only do we have this cool documentary to check out from CWG now, he’s gearing up to release a new album sometime this year called Family Ties, which I absolutely cannot wait for.

It doesn’t get better than this…

And how about a little “Hardwood Floors” while you’re here, too:

Here’s the full thing, it’s really well-done and a neat peak behind what goes into a CWG show:
