I love waking up to good news on a Friday morning.
Brent Cobbannounced that he has a new album called Southern Star slated to drop on September 22nd, which is his very first fully self-produced project.
He shared that this project focuses on his southern roots, from the production to the lyrics and everything else that goes into making a record, and it will feel just like home if you’re lucky enough to be from the South:
“You know how when you’re growing up, you’re told that if you ever get lost out there, look for the northern star to help find direction back home? Well, I’m from Georgia. So, I always look for the southern star.
This album, the songs, the sounds… it’s all a product of where I’m from both musically and environmentally. Historically and presently that place also happens to be the same place that cultivated a good many of the most influential artists in the whole world of music.
Music as we know it would not exist without the American south. It’s funky and sentimental. It’s simple and complex.”
This will be Brent’s fifth full-length record, and the follow-up to his 2022 And Now Let’s Turn to Page… gospel album, which was one of my favorites from last year.
The entire tracklist was recorded at Capricorn Studios in Macon, Georgia, and if you’re still somehow unfamiliar with Brent’s work, now is definitely the time to change that.
He’s a truly talented and authentic country artist, in addition to being an incredible songwriter, and has also been opening for Luke Combs on his current world tour:
“My new album ‘Southern Star’ comes out on September 22, and the title track is out now.
It’s the first time I’ve produced an album for myself, and I recorded it at Capricorn Studios in Macon, Georgia which feels like home.
I can’t wait to share this music with y’all. Thanks for listening.”
As a southerner myself, I of course love the theme and concept of Southern Star and the sound of the title track already, so make sure you mark this one on the calendar and stay tuned for more:
