There are two videos that still stick to my mind to this day. One of them shaped my sense of humor, the other gives me PTSD…
The PTSD one was the iconic video of a car driving down the road with peaceful music playing in the background, when all of a sudden, a zombie-like face pops up on the screen screaming at the top of it’s lungs, and I still have nightmares about it to this day.
The other?
The legendary John West Salmon commercial.
For anybody who was born in the ’90s or before, you know exactly what I’m talking about. The boxing match between a dude in orange overalls and a massive grizzly bear, the hilarious narration that sounds straight from National Geographic, the legendary line, “LOOK, AN EAGLE,” everything about that commercial was genius, and I hope the guy who came up with the idea made millions.
Released in 2000, I’ll never forget my parents taking 30 minutes of their time to get the commercial to pull up on our ancient dial up computer that sounded like a robot every time you turned it on, just to make their friends laugh for 30 seconds.
Simpler times, man, simpler times.
And of course, I have to bring up the old “scenic car drive, popup scare” video.
