20 year old Cecil Ray has been a quiet country underdog on this season of American Idol, since all the way back to his very first audition with a Morgan Wallen tune. He would then follow that up with a performance of Tyler Childers’ “Shake The Frost.”
And this time, he was back with a country classic, “Paint Me A Birmingham” from the great Tracy Lawrence.
I’m not going to call it the best performance of the 2003 hit that I’ve ever heard, but it’s pretty cool to see country have such a presence on the show this year. We’ve see multiple artists perform Tyler Childers, we’ve seen a couple Merle Haggard covers, Chris Stapleton, and now Tracy Lawrence.
Cecil would later perform with Jimmie Allen on a duet of Allen’s “Freedom Was A Highway.”
