She has her work cut out for her.
Dutton Ranch will premiere tomorrow evening, and the highly-anticipated Yellowstone spinoff finds Beth Dutton (Kelly Reilly) and Rip Wheeler (Cole Hauser) will reprising their roles and returning to the screens of fans all over the world, and this new show has been described as “Yellowstone Season 6.”
We’ll get a sense of where it’s all going tomorrow, but in the lead up the first episode, Kelly, Cole, and the entire cast have been doing a ton of press to promote the series, but of course, it’s not their first rodeo. They’ve been working closely together for over a decade now, and they’ve been a fan-favorite couple for years, and fans will get to see how they handle a big move from Montana to Texas as this new series gets started.
But one very famous face, Annette Bening, is joining the Yellowstone universe for the first time, as she will play Beulah Jackson, a powerful and cunning owner of a rival Texas ranch will, as you can imagine, have a lot to say about Beth and Rip coming down to Texas and opening their own ranch there.
During an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Bening talked about what made her decide t join the cast in the first place, saying she was “riveted” by Reilly’s work as Beth in the original series:
“They came to me and told me the story that they were intending to tell. I knew ‘Yellowstone,’ and I had watched it and I had fallen madly in love with Kelly Reilly as an actress. I just was riveted by her, by everybody, but I have to say, Kelly, I was like, who is that person? You’re telling me she’s English? No way.
Cole Hauser, who, I followed his work for years and they told me Ed Harris may be in it too, and then they told me the story would be in Texas, and the whole thing began to sound like a really delicious adventure.”
She explained that she thinks Beth has finally met a “worthy adversary” and a true match in terms of her fierceness and ability to protect her family’s legacy, and of course, Beth is on her turf now so it will be very interesting to see how these two ladies go head-to-head because neither one of them is a shrinking violet by any stretch of the imagination:
“Yeah, I mean, I like to think that Beulah sees some of herself in this amazing woman. They step into hurt her world, don’t forget, this is our turf now. They’re coming to Texas and they’re dealing with everybody in our town, so that’s good fun.
But I think a lot of what made ‘Yellowstone’ so great was obviously the writing was just at such a high level, but also, these actors know how to keep the stakes high, and Kelly really does understand that, so it’s really inspiring to be part of that.”
Bening added that they really tried to make the stakes just as high as Yellowstone in this new series, and she hopes fans will love it just as much as the original:
“I hope they do… all I can say is, we have tried to make the stakes just as high. ‘Yellowstone’ was so much fun for me to watch because of the stakes of the characters, and it has a mythic undertone where people are trying to win the approval of someone or control their daughter or their son, or get the approval of their mother or father, or heal the trauma that came from family wounds.
It’s all of that, so hopefully we’ve brought that to our show. I’m a big admirer of ‘Yellowstone,’ so I hope that we brought those same steaks to our show. We certainly have tried.”
We all know Beth is a bad*** who doesn’t mess around when it comes to her family, and it sounds like Beulah is the same way, and we really never saw Beth with a truly worthy opponent in Yellowstone, so I think that will be a very interesting aspect of Dutton Ranch and I’m excited to see how it plays out, especially with Beth being on someone else’s turf now in Texas.
The first two episodes premiere tomorrow, May 15th, and it will be available to stream on Paramount+ in addition to airing on the Paramount Network at 8 p.m. ET/PT, with weekly episodes following through July 3rd, 2026.
