They don’t make ’em much better than Nicholas Jamerson.
The Kentucky legend has built a legendary career on his ability to tell honest stories about his own experiences as well as those of the people and places around him. His latest single is no exception.
Titled “Goodbye Brother,” his brand new song is one of the most poignant tracks he’s released in a while. Following recent releases “I’ve Never Been Anywhere” and “Fly” as the third single released off of his forthcoming album Rabbit Holes (Vol. 1), “Goodbye Brother” puts Jamerson’s songwriting on full display with stripped-back, largely acoustic instrumentation that keeps the lyrics at the forefront.
Reflecting on the complicated nature of addiction and the pain of saying goodbye to a friend who lost their battle with it, Jamerson once again proves why he remains one of the genre’s most gifted storytellers. Rather than focusing solely on the tragedy, “Goodbye Brother” offers a compassionate portrait of someone caught in a battle bigger than himself, highlighting the humanity behind addiction and the sentiments of those left grieving as it takes its toll.
“It’s a cruel joke how it wraps around ya, you don’t want it but you still need more
You try to climb but the walls keep crumbling, every step feels like a closed door
He wasn’t weak just a man who stumbled, lost in the dark with no way out

Nicholas Jamerson has over 20 shows on the schedule for the remainder of the year, and if he’s coming to a town near you, I highly suggest you make it out to see him. A good chunk of his headlining sets are acoustic, but if you ask me that makes for a particularly special show. Don’t get me wrong, NJ gets down with his band The Morning Jays, but there’s something especially powerful about the way he can command a room with an acoustic guitar and his potent lyrics. No matter the circumstance, hearing his songs live are special.
