She delivered disco and country once again.
Today, Miranda Lambert released the next song from her forthcoming album Crisco titled “Sunset Marquis,” which is a dreamy, heavily disco-inspired tracks that centers around one of her favorite places in California.
Crisco, which is due out everywhere on October 2nd, and Miranda co-produced it with Frasure. It will feature12 tracks as Miranda explores “heartbreak and hope, highways and honky-tonks, rhinestones and reflection, creating a record that feels both timeless and refreshingly alive.”
With this project, she will take her music in a very different direction, and as she continues to tease new music with her new label MCA, marking a new chapter in her decorated recording career, she’s venturing into a new avenue of country music.
She says that she’s always loved “every corner of country music,” and with Crisco, she wanted to lean into the more fun, upbeat kinds of songs that “make you dance”:
“I’ve always loved every corner of country music. The heartbreak songs, the honky-tonk songs, the songs that make you think and the songs that make you dance. Making this record reminded me that those things don’t have to be separated.
We followed the songs wherever they wanted to go, trusted our instincts and ended up with something that feels really fun and really honest to who I am.”
She’s already released the title track, her duet with Chris Stapleton that was released last year, “A Song To Sing,” as well as a song called “Till The Going’s Gone.”
“Sunset Marquis” was written by Miranda along with Jesse Frasure, David Garcia, Waylon Payne and Ashley Monroe, and the hotel itself, the Sunset Marquis, is an iconic West Hollywood hotel that “has long served as a creative refuge for musicians, actors and artists alike.” There’s a ton of 70s influence in the production too, it’s super groovy, if you will, and Miranda says she’s been staying at the Sunset Marquis for close to 20 years, and the magic of it comes from the “timeless energy that feels like stepping into another era.”

“I’ve been staying at the Sunset Marquis for close to 20 years. Every time I’m there, you never know who you’re going to run into or what kind of memories you’re going to make. It has this timeless energy that feels like stepping into another era.
When we wrote this song, I wanted listeners to be able to close their eyes and feel like they were there with us – to see it, smell it and experience the magic that’s made the Sunset Marquis such a special place for so many years.”
“Sunset Marquis” is also going to be featured in the forthcoming documentary about the hotel If These Walls Could Rock, which will be out on streaming next Friday, August 14th.
I really didn’t know what to expect from this disco era, honestly, but Miranda certainly earned the right to experiment with her music and all of these songs so far have been cool and very much in line with what she promised on a disco album, and I’m absolutely here for all the vintage visuals, sparkles and rhinestones.
