Country music is obviously having a big moment right now, recently even landing the top 5 spots on the all-genre Billboard Hot 100 chart for the first time ever. (Although maybe all 5 shouldn’t REALLY be considered country songs…)
Over the past few years we’ve seen a ton of pop artists make the jump to country music, whether that’s a long-term career move like seems to be the case with Post Malone or simply artists seeing that country is popular right now and wanting to be a part of it. Over the past few years we’ve seen Beyoncé, Machine Gun Kelly, BigXthaPlug, and Yung Gravy all dropped “country-inspired” projects, and plenty of other pop artists have collaborated with major country stars.
We’ve also seen celebrities who AREN’T artists trying their hand at country music: Actor Kiefer Sutherland released his first country album back in 2016, and has released four albums over the past decade. Luke Grimes, who is best known for playing Kayce Dutton on Yellowstone, has been able to forge a pretty successful career as a country artist, and has released two solid country albums so far.
Even Pat McAfee, the outspoken and at times polarizing host of one of the biggest shows on ESPN, recently announced that he’s dropping a country album that was written with the help of Ernest.
And now, even Travis Kelce might be interested in dipping his toe in the country music water. (I could make a joke about this not being his first dip into country music given the recent change in his marital status, but I’m a serious journalist so I won’t be doing that).
According to British gossip columnist Rob Shuter, the Kansas City Chiefs tight end and husband to Taylor Swift is reportedly considering the possibility of dropping a country album, after apparently having performed at his own recent Madison Square Garden wedding:
“Travis has been talking about making a country album for months. The wedding performance wasn’t just a fun moment—it was a test run. He was singing in front of the biggest names in music, and he wanted to see how it felt.”
The tight end’s brother, Jason Kelce, also confirmed that Kelce can at least hold his own when it comes to singing:
“Trav can sing. Trav has always been able to carry a tune.”
Obviously Travis would have plenty of connections in the country music industry, given that he’s married to one of the biggest music artists in the world – who also happened to start in Nashville herself. But he also wouldn’t even be the first Kelce to drop an album: Jason has released three Christmas albums with former Philadelphia Eagles teammates Lane Johnson and Jordan Mailata. Oh, and Travis Kelce even gave us a preview of his singing voice a couple years ago when he joined his brother for their version of “Fairytale of New York,” which they obviously turned into “Fairytale of Philadelphia.”
He also delivered a passionate performance of Whitesnake’s “Here I Go Again” a couple years ago during a charity karaoke competition, which was…interesting:

It’s clear that Travis Kelce is pretty comfortable behind a mic, whether it’s singing or hosting his New Heights podcast with his brother. So will we be seeing a country album from Mr. Taylor Swift any time soon?
I mean, at this point, might as well. Everybody else is doing it.
