If you’ve ever needed a visual illustration of just how massive moose are, this viral video of the antlered animal walking along a Utah back porch should do the trick.
Safe to say that floor to ceiling windows are the way to go if you want to be able to view wildlife from the comfort of your own living room. This Park City, Utah home sure has the perfect set up for moose watching. In fact, the moose there (it’s estimated that around 2,500 to 3,000 live in Utah) apparently make wildlife viewing very easy.
This one got so close that it was practically peering through the homeowner’s windows. How it got up on the back porch? That’s one of those mysteries that’s best left unsolved.
And I have to point out that people don’t realize how big these creatures really are. Seeing one this close to a home and almost being eye level with the roof line actually helps to paint a clearer picture. Moose are the largest of all deer in the deer family, and males are typically bigger than females. On average, bull moose stand at 6 feet tall at their shoulders, and can even weigh up to 1,400 pounds, while cows usually top out at 1,000 pounds (and can also reach as high as 6 feet).
This particular moose isn’t the largest you’ll ever see, but its size is still nothing to sneeze at. And they are certainly intimidating getting this close to a home… and looking right at you through the window:
Sheesh… there’s two ways to respond to that. Either you see that kind of experience as a bit intimidating, or this video makes you think, “I wouldn’t mind plopping down in the living room and watching my own personal, live viewing of Planet Earth.”
There’s two types of people out there.
Social media users that came across the footage couldn’t believe how big the Utah moose was as it walked by the home, and left comments under the video expressing their concern and their awe. There were also a fair share of replies that referenced the iconic Rocky and Bullwinkle cartoon… I’m assuming some of the younger readers out there probably don’t even know what that it is.
Instead of diving into the history of the cartoon and doing a crash course on it, I’ll instead direct you to the aforementioned comment section, which was overflowing with observations like these:

“You need a higher fence, looks like just stepped over it.”
“Holy hell so cool… and so glad he decided to just wander on.”
“Love how he just glances in!”
“That looks like an accident waiting to happen.”
“He’d make short work of that glass door.”
“Those deck boards are holding up nicely.”
“Imagine waking up from a deep nap and seeing that.”
Admittedly, that would probably be a bit startling. However, it wouldn’t be the worst thing in the world… and it sure looks like this Utah homeowner has gotten used to it.
