UNC Releases Bizarre Statement From Bill Belichick On Controversial CBS Interview, Says Girlfriend Jordon Hudson Was Not Trying To “Control The Conversation”

Breaking his silence.

This afternoon, Bill Belichick released a statement via email from his employer, the University of North Carolina, on the recent, and extremely viral, CBS Sunday Morning interview where Jordon made national headlines over the weekend.

During the conversation, she sat off to the side, watching intently as Bill was questioned about a wide array of topics. When interviewer Tony Dokoupil asked how the couple met, which has already widely been covered, Hudson quickly chimed in from off camera to shut it down:

“We’re not talking about this.”

It was an incredibly awkward moment that seemed to catch the interviewer off guard, and when Dokoupil asked about the photos of their relationship that Hudson shared on social media, Belichick didn’t seem interested in discussing that either:

“I’m on some of those social media platforms, but I honestly don’t follow them.”

There’s a 48-year age difference between the 73-year old coach and the 24-year old former cheerleader, who reportedly met on a flight a few years ago and kept in touch after striking up a conversation. She previously claimed that they met on a flight in February of 2021, while Hudson was a student at Bridgewater State University. TMZ reported back then that Belichick approached her after noticing she was reading a textbook on Deductive Logic and signed it with his Super Bowl victories… what a flex.

And she’s apparently even helping Belichick out in his new job, as recently-released emails showed that Belichick had asked UNC staff members to copy Hudson on emails to him so she could help the team out with social media, and Hudson expressing her concerns with comments about their relationship on the team’s social media posts. Hudson has also been spotted helping out at UNC football practice, which led to a lot of comments – and some concerns from Tar Heel fans (I’d be seriously concerned if I was a Tar Heel fan).

It’s just a weird situation all-around, and the fact that she’s now being put in charge of his business ventures seems like an absolutely horrible idea to me. I mean, she reportedly filed a trademark for him called “Trail of Salty Tears.” Who in the world signed off on that? Insane…

And honestly, this statement really doesn’t clear anything up, either. Bill claims that there was an agreement beforehand that there would be no questions about anything other than the book, but news flash Mr. Hall of Fame coach: No one really cares about your book right now.

I mean, there’s is absolutely no way this man thought no one was going to ask him about his pretty public relationship with a 24-year old… be so for real here, Bill. He’s been around the media long enough to know that’s not how it works, and if they’re so concerned with being private, maybe Jordon shouldn’t be so much in the spotlight and prancing around on the field at practices and scrimmages.

He also noted that he and Jordon share “both a personal and professional relationship,” which is why she stepped in when they did not like the line of questioning. Jordon is not his publicist, and if they wanted these requests to be taken seriously, he shouldn’t brought his actual publicist with him. Jordon also reportedly stormed out during the interview and caused a 30-minute delay while filming, so I find it very hard to believe they’re the total victims here.

Belichick defended Hudson for speaking up, claimed they were not trying to avoid the question about how they met, and said that she was in no way trying to “control the conversation.” The simple way to avoid all of the backlash, if what he’s saying is true, would be to have an actual employee on his team, preferably a publicist, to make these calls on his behalf, not his girlfriend who has no professional experience in this department whatsoever:

“I agreed to speak with CBS Sunday Morning to promote my new book, ‘The Art of Winning — Lessons from My Life in Football.’ Prior to this interview, I clearly communicated with my publicist at Simon & Schuster that any promotional interviews I participated in would agree to focus solely on the contents of the book. Unfortunately, that expectation was not honored during the interview. I was surprised when unrelated topics were introduced, and I repeatedly expressed to the reporter, Tony Dokoupil, and the producers that I preferred to keep the conversation centered on the book.

After this occurred several times, Jordon, with whom I share both a personal and professional relationship, stepped in to reiterate that point to help refocus the discussion. She was not deflecting any specific question or topic but simply doing her job to ensure the interview stayed on track. Some of the clips make it appear as though we were avoiding the question of how we met, but we have been open about the fact that Jordon and I met on a flight to Palm Beach in 2021.

The final eight-minute segment does not reflect the productive 35-minute conversation we had, which covered a wide range of topics related to my career. Instead, it presents selectively edited clips and stills from just a few minutes of the interview to suggest a false narrative — that Jordon was attempting to control the conversation — which is simply not true.”

To make matters even more bizarre, the statement was posted on UNC’s school website, so this was apparently something that went through the university before it was released.

Blink twice if you need help, Bill… this story just keeps getting crazier.
